Peck has always been one of my favorite schools to teach at. The kids just love the game and are very well behaved. I've been out of the swing of teaching chess due to the COVID scam and refused to teach kids chess with a mask. Chess by computer is instructive and fun but lacks the social interaction of the game which I think is very important. To do such a thing with a mask is not only granting legitimacy to the scam that masks will somehow protect you from a virus, but is also completely removing the social and psychological aspects of the game. Knowing your opponent's tells helps you know how you are doing. Is your opponent happy? Scared? Uncertain? It really adds a whole dimension to the game. So I am starting a run at Peck and though it takes me 1.5 hours to get there I think its worth it. If you want chess instruction at your school or gathering, give The Chess Guy a call at 208-301-8615 or email me at [email protected] and we can "get it on"! I just picked up some inexpensive digital chess clocks we will be using for Siamese/Bug House games. The price is relatively cheap ($20.99 on amazon) and my old plastic ones have mostly broken so we shall see how this does. It lacks any alarm when 0 is hit but I suppose that's no different than a wind-up chess clock that has a silent flag falling. Feel free to donate to The Chess Guy as gas and equipment are not cheap and I don't charge diddly for what I do. | A shot that the Peck schoolteacher sent me of the kids I will be teaching. |
