The Chess Guy also teaches computer programming!
In college I was a computer camp instructor where I taught kids on Apple IIE computers fun things like how to make cool sounds using assembly language.
I am an experienced programmer retired from a 20 year career with Microsoft where I helped work on such famous projects as Windows, Windows NT, OS/2, and Messenger among other things. I am most experienced these days with JavaScript which is becoming one of the most popular languages on earth. I can take kids from simple HTML to sophisticated cloud hosted website development.
Teaching kids programming isn't as boring or difficult as one might expect. It doesn't take a math degree either. Computer programming these days is much easier than it used to be and much more mature. Most professional programmers these days are self-taught. I can get kids started right and hooked on learning and creating, building real things from ideas.
Most schools don't even understand how their computers work and use them more for entertainment, communication and as virtual paper. But this barely scratches the surface of what these machines can do in the hands of a programmer or power user. Getting kids to understand how these things work will help them stay on top of the technology, making it serve them instead of the other way around.
Teachers too could benefit from understanding a bit about these beasts that students seem to know more about than they do.
Recommended Student Ages: 12 years old and up.
